AfriAgriTech Project

Nigeria is the most populous and largest economy in Africa. Agriculture is its economic base and source of livelihood for the majority of Nigerians, employing two-thirds of the labour-force with 88% smallholder farmers, 72% living below the poverty-line and 70–80% of smallholder labour-force women. Nigeria is listed by DAC as an ODA Recipient.

Challenges for smallholder farmers are numerous, including constraints to land access; obsolete production methodology; supply chain inefficiencies; corruption; informal markets (100%), cash-economics and non-existent global- trade keeping productivity low and waste high. The government, FAO, UNDP, CBN and WEF concur constraints include poor access to credit (<7%) and adoption of technologies. <6% of farmers benefit from extension services from knowledge and information transfer, compounded by the decision-making power disproportionately being held by men and women ownership at <13%. Women smallholders account for 70% of food production and their lack of autonomous decision-making and agency stifles improvements from knowledge-intensive agriculture. This research’s primary purpose is to enable autonomous decision-making for smallholder farmers in Nigeria, so they have equitable access to opportunities from frontier technology and financial ecosystems with increased digital skills to participate in global B2B trade and final stage distribution. Authenticated data assists the agricultural sector’s efficiency and enable services in related sectors such as insureTech, edTech, and govTech services. The availability of datasets to third-parties accelerates innovation, creates new revenue sources from the digital-economy and promotes indirect job creation of 15% (IMF). This underpins economic development for Nigeria with growth of at least 1% in GDP, improved and sustained incomes, and positive impact on food-security and better nutrition. Our research directly addresses the required data to enable decision-making from a farm to trade and beyond perspective. Africa Agri Tech Ltd has conducted consultation with Nigeria and converged key knowledge and expertise from the UK under the aegis of significant public and private collaboration partners in Nigeria, including policy makers and organisations representing women farmers to ensure exogenous insights, impact and research excellence. The Research and output of the project will include a Trust-as-a-Service non-functioning prototype, beta-test and MVP growth strategy to be implemented with the partner systems in Nigeria and replicated to other nations of AfCFTA.[/et_pb_text][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][/et_pb_section][et_pb_section fb_built="1" _builder_version="4.9.4" _module_preset="default" background_enable_color="off" use_background_color_gradient="on" background_color_gradient_start="rgba(255,255,255,0.45)" background_color_gradient_end="rgba(41,196,169,0.11)" background_color_gradient_overlays_image="on" background_image="https://tacafrica.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/partnet_bg.jpg" background_size="initial" background_repeat="repeat" global_module="563"][et_pb_row _builder_version="4.9.4" _module_preset="default" custom_padding="||7px|||"][et_pb_column type="4_4" _builder_version="4.9.4" _module_preset="default"][et_pb_text _builder_version="4.9.4" _module_preset="default" header_2_text_align="center" background_color="#FFFFFF" max_width="40%" module_alignment="center" custom_padding="15px||0px||false|false" header_2_font_size_tablet="" header_2_font_size_phone="18px" header_2_font_size_last_edited="on|phone" border_radii="on|5px|5px|5px|5px" border_width_all="2px" border_color_all="#0C71C3" box_shadow_style="preset3" box_shadow_color="rgba(0,0,0,0.12)"]
